This question is about my friend. She doesn't eat. She doesn't eat breakfast, she doesn't eat lunch, she normally eats a little bit of supper. She doesn't eat because she thinks shes fat, but shes like 90 pounds, and the skinniest thing ever. I've seen her eat sometimes, but barely ever. I'm not sure if you'd call her anorexic, she doesn't throw up or anything, but she has fainted once. I'm really worried about her, I don't want her to get sick. Me and other friends have tried talking to her, but it doesnt help. She still thinks she fat even though shes a twig. Please, can anyone give me some advice on what to say to her? And please don't say "she's just trying to get attention" because a few people have said that before and shes not. Please give me serious answers..Thanks!

Yes, honey, that's what you call anorexic. A girl doesn't have to be at death's door to get that diagnosis. This girl needs some serious support, and right now. Please insist she go to a real doctor and take seriously the idea that she's got to learn how to eat. She's gotten a sort of phobia, almost an allergy, to the very idea of food, and feels even the little bit at supper to be hard to endure. She's treating food as the enemy, and it will win to destroy her if she lets it.

Overeaters Anonymous has, amazingly, very good results with anorexic girls. Coming into a meeting and learning about people who have gone to the opposite extreme in being out of control, and what it means to decide to do things by rational decision, for good reasons, one day at a time, one meal at a time, sometimes one bite at a time. It's more complicated than Alcoholics Anonymous, because abstinence is not about abstaining from FOOD, but from compulsive behavior with regard to food, whether compulsive eating or compulsive avoidance for fear of compulsive eating. It's all about being out of control, admitting it, and seeking the help of those who have been there and learned better, one day at a time.

Regardless of what she may say, she needs to eat...a lot it seems at this point. As far as self confidence is concerned, I would say to read a lot of Garfield (humor helps cure anything I think). Also, come up with of a list of people that have a lot of faith and friendship in this person. In my experience, this is a very delicate situation, but it must be challenged head on, there is no other way around it. To get her to eat, I think that it would be a good idea to give her something about seven to eight times a day (even if its an apple or a couple of cookies). Eat, child Eat!!!

Yes, your friend is anorexic. She needs help from a doctor immediately. If her parents and teachers aren't doing anything, call the police (not 911) or call a hospital and ask what you can do. Please take this very seriously. She has a serious disorder that causes her to see herself as fat, even though she's deathly skinny.

Bulemia is the disease where they throw up.
Anorexia is the disease where they don't allow themselves to eat much.

My personal thought is to get a picture of her( without her knowing if possible) a picture of another female who does have some extra weight and a picture of a female with good muscle tone( preferably in bathing suits), replace there heads with hers, cover the heads on all three pictures, ask her what her opinion of each body is, and refusing to give your opinion, reveal that each photo has her face. I have seen many attractive women of different sizes do to muscle tone. women could save a lot of money and be much more attractive with just a tan and muscle tone, and it cost a lot less as I already mentioned.

Sounds like she has quite a serious eating disorder. It's always difficult to know how to help as her perspective is distorted. Are there family that could help? Also it may be worth getting some help from an organisation that helps with this.

I think she has anorexia. Bulimia is when one throws up. Most of the time anorexics deny they have a problem. If she is under 18, you need to tell her parents to get her to an eating disroder treatment facility.

first of all, she IS anorexic if she's not eating (bullimic is when u throw up)...and you need to just convince her parents/guardian/teacher to take her to a doctor and get her started on a plan to gradually increase the amt of food she's eating...she's convinced she doesn't need to, so now it's up to others to take control and force her. she may not like that but would you rather something realle bad happen to her?
