You will notice that the connecting tissue is torn and easy for a tampon to go through. Either that or your area will sting when you urinate too if it was recently torn. Use a mirror and check yourself but you'll know it it is broken (without going into too much details.) Check with your doctor for further evaluation.

First of all, do you know where your hymen is? I'm just checking, just incase you don't know. If you look at your vaginal opening you will see a sort of roundish thing? That is your hymen.
A hymen will appear split instead of perfectly smooth if it is broken. Of course there have been cases where a hymen is broken and it appears the same as it did before - it doesn't apear split or anything - but that doesn't mean it isn't.

What I was told by my doctor many years ago is this: if you use tampons then it is probably ruptured, if you are a very active person then it is probably ruptured, if you do a lot of horseback riding then it is probably gone. The only real way to find out is to see your OBGYN and ask. If you dont want to do that and are thinking about sex, the only thing I can tell you is to proceed with caution, take it slow, and try to relax.
Chances are though it prbably has been....at least to some degree (yes it can be partially gone).

Have a sex with a guy. If his penis goes in without any resistance, than your hymen has been ruptured. If it takes a few minutes for him to enter you, then your Hymen WAS intact.

Best way to find out would be to visit your doctor. But if you've had blood spottings on your underwear, then you probably did break it.

It's probably not broken unless you had an injury that caused bleeding from your vagina.
