Call all of the shelters and animal control agency in your area. Call the local police departments and the departments of surrounding cities. Call local vets. Put "Found dog" signs up in local supermarkets and within a 5 mile radius of where you live.

Focus on the police departments and emergency vets right now because it's after 5 and most shelters / animal control are closed already!

DO NOT bring the dog to "the pound". Many only keep the dogs a few days before putting them down. If there is no way you can keep him till finding his owner, then bring him to a no-kill shelter.

He is a black lab, a little older in age (Because of the greying on his muzzle) and looks like a very sweet, well cared for pet that someone is probably missing badly!

Make up a flyer that says found and take a picture of the dog and attach it to it. then put copies up all over your neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods. You might also put an ad in your local paper. Some supermarkets like Krogers have little cards that say free ad that you could use to let people know that you are searching for a dogs owner. I am sure that the owner is looking for the dog as well. Keep an eye out for lost dog posters and ads as well.

He's definitely a black lab mix!
First bring him to a local vet and have him scanned for a microchip. If he has one, you will hopefully be able to contact the owner. the next best bet is to put up flyers in the immediate and surrounding areas of where you found him. Put a general description but leave out a couple of key details that you can ask the owner if he/she calls to make sure the pet truly belongs to them. Also put an ad in the local papers- most of them will let you put a "found pet" ad in at no charge. Do this as soon as possible to broaden the chances of finding the owner. Not to bum you out, but unfortunately if he has no tags on the chances of returning him to his original owner are very slim. If all else fails and you are unable to keep him, contact your local Labrador rescue group- they may be willing to rehome him. Good luck!

He looks like a lab mix of some kind. You can call your local shelters and see if anyone has been looking for him. Put up posters around your town and hopefully his family will see them. There really isn't alot you can do if he didn't have any tags and if he didn't chances of him being mirochiped are slim but you can call your local vets and shelters as well to see if the scan for the microchip. Its always worth a try. Good luck trying to find his family. Its good to know that there are people out there who care enough to try to find the owners.

He is a gorgeous black lab- he looks just like mine! He looks very well cared for as evidenced by his shiny coat! Most vet offices have the ability to scan for a microchip. I would also contact local shelters and let them know that you found him and a detailed description of the dog and where you found him. Also, in the meantime, I would post flyers saying that you found a black dog. The true owner would be able to tell you the dogs name, size, and gender. hen you could see if the dog responds to his name. Also, I would check lost dogs sections in papers and on craigslist for your area. T If you are unable to care for him, take him to a no kill shelter if possible, or find someone you trust to care for him until his owner is found. Good luck finding his owner!

That is a black lab, and the best way to find his family is to take him to your local SPCA or animal shelter as they can scan him for a chip. Hopefully he is chipped and the chip will have information on it as to how the SPCA or shelter can get a hold of the owners. If you don't want to take him call them and let them know that you have found a lost black lab (who is absolutely adorable) and that you would like to do would like to turn him over so that they can find his rightful home.

It is wonderful that you are trying to deligently to find the dog's family and good luck.

he is for sure a lab mix.
well to find his owner with no tags is pretty difficult.
if he has a rabbies shot tag then you can call the vet on the tag where he got the shot and read them the number on the tag and they can tell you the owner but if no tags i don't know what you can do i guess put ads up and just wait. Good Luck

He looks like a lab/lab mix. Put an ad in the local paper and put flyer up near where you found him. Also watch the local paper for ads that may be put in by the person who lost him. I would also ask to put up flyers at the area vets and animal shelter.

He looks like a lab mix. Call the area emergency veterinarians and let them know you have him, owners usually call there looking to make sure the pet wasnt injured.

Register him on a site like http://www.thefoundbin.com, www.foundandlostpets.com, etc. and hope that the owner does the same. It's usually free and only takes a few minutes.
