The problem is that she is filing for permanant residency but will have to travel back into the US for our brothers wedding in June. Is there any rules against this? Has anyone had problems with this? Is there a site that I can look up that will help? Thanks.

Hi! I am in this same situation. While awaiting issuance of permanent residency, I am living in Canada on a Visitor's Visa. I go back and forth to the U.S. several times a month. I just show my visitor visa with my other I.D. and have never had a problem, or even had to go into immigration. Before I had the visitor visa, I got interviewed by immigration regularly.

If your sister does not have a visitor visa, I would recommend that she go into an immigration office and get one. It's free, she just has to show her marriage certificate and the address they are living at.

If you need more info, email me at pynkgold@aim.com.

She should have no trouble moving back and forth. If she's filing for permanent residency, but not citizenship, it may be a good idea to get a US passport asap. The passport rules are changing very soon and people flying must have one to go back and forth between Canada and the US now, while people driving or boating need one by next January (2008).
