My shih-tzu is having to urinate more often lately and now there is blood showing up in the snow. Does anyone know what this could be?

You have written about your dog in the cat colomn. Doesn't matter. You need to get a fresh sample of it if you can and take it to the vet ASAP. It could be just cystitis (Bladder Infetcion), Which is easily treated with Antibiotics but it could be other things I.e Stones etc ect. and the list goes on. IF your dog is a girl they are more prone to bladder infections. But let me ask you something. If your urine had blood in it would you go to the Doc's?? You would because it is not normal, you must must must get your dog to the vet, not only is it painful but your dog could be at risk of serious problems if you do not do the right thing. i.e Kidney Failure and death!!

I hope i have made it clear TO THE VET

Get the dog to the vet right away. This could be a sign of a serious kidney problem...even failure.

Sounds like a urinary tract problem. I will re-state what has been said before...GO TO THE VET. He/She is the only one that can diagnose and treat your dog's problem. The sooner the better, you don't want kidney failure or death.
