If you don't believe, that's fine. It's your soul, and it's your choice. But why do you go out of your way to disrespect people who do believe? What do you think you gain from it? Could you be drawn to it because you really want to believe in something to fill the emptiness you feel inside?

Could you be insulting and stereotyping a whole class of people? Yes I think you could!!!

How do you know what non-believers spend so much time on? When you are at the gym, do the atheists have signs on their shirts that say "Atheist"? How about when you are in the library? How about at work? Or school? Or at a movie theater?

Kid (at least I hope you are a child since you are acting like one), the point I am making here is that you don't know what atheists do most of the time, as you can't tell an atheist apart from anyone else. The only time you know atheists are talking to you is probably online, and only when the discussion is about religion.

As for your emptiness comment, one could say the same thing about any of us writing in Yahoo Answers. Could you be drawn to Yahoo Answers because you are a loser with no social skills who needs the internet to interact with people? Wow, see how easy acting like a total jerk can be? Perhaps you should try to be nicer in the future. If specific people are mean to you, saying nasty things about a whole class of people makes you look far worse. So grow up.

Religion is the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on mankind. Those who do not believe feel just as strongly one way as those that do the other. We have our opinions that we've developed over time and yours are based on a fictional account of the universe. So you say things like "Could you be drawn to it because you really want to believe in something to fill the emptiness you feel inside?" Why is it so important for you to shove that stuff down our throats? No heaven, no hell, you die and turn to dust period, end of discussion.

Unfortunately I think some people can only feel strength by belittling others. If you cut someone else's head off you may feel taller. This applies to all believers and non believers....depending on their vehemence! There are plenty of people on either side of every fence whose faith in whatever they believe in is so strong and full, they feel no need to belittle the other view....hey presto; tolerance!

I'm offended by this question. Why do people like you feel the need to make atheists like me feel bad about not believing? We don't all trash religion. I would say that by far, most atheists respect people of religions other than their own. I want to ask you the same question: why do you spend so much time trashing non-believers?

You asked a good question, and as you will note from the answers received, there are two sides. Some agree with you, and some do not. Who is right depends on your beliefs on this subjective topic.
To answer the question. People are just expressing their own personal thoughts, some more vehemently than others. As long as it remains civil, we all benefit.

I could be drawn for that reason, but I am not. I do not trash any belief out of hand, but I do attack unfounded and already falsified belief as unreasonable. Someone can claim the right to believe a lie, but then they should keep it to themselves.

Why do "believers" always act like "non-believers" are unmoral child rapists. How about believers stop acting so superior and "non-believers" won't have to put you in your place.

Could you be drawn to it because you really want to believe in something to fill the emptiness you feel inside?"
Sounds like someone feels superior.

Because non-believers dont really like to go around and knock on peoples doors telling them that nothing happens when you die. We dont fly planes into buildings because you believe in some form of a god while we dont. We havent fought in the Crusades trying to convert people to a religion by force. We have to endure that, you can endure our wishes for all religion to cease.

Because religions are trash. We cant just let the trash keep piling up. We try to put it in the garbage dump where it belongs. If we didn't it would soon overwhelm us. We couldn't live like that. We are getting to the younger people before they are brain washed that's whats important. OO

Read the bible...non believers have been mocking Christians and Jews since the beginning of time.
