Matthew 7
1Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

so if we judge for correction with the intent to improve others then we will be improved. And shouldn't that be the goal, to improve the church by removing what doesn't work and replacing it with what does work? We must understand that there are two types of judgment, one that is made to destroy and one that is made to correct. What if a faith full Christian contractor did not judge and criticize the work of a someone working underneath him? whatever he made could be defective and cause more harm than good.

also consider these verses:
John 7:24
1 Corinthians 6:2-5
1 Corinthians 11:30-32
1 Corinthians 14:23-25

Should We Never Judge?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment"; and "You have rightly judged."; and "Yes, and why, even of yourselves, do you not judge what is right?"; and "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves". (Jesus' Words in John 7:24; Luke 7:43, 12:57 and Matt. 23:15)

There is an extremely serious error that is being believed by the vast majority of people caught up in christian religion. This error is literally making those folks unwilling and unable to discern truth. And what is this error? It is believing that all "judgment" is wrong. If this is true, then what is to be made of Jesus' Words above? In the verses above, Jesus clearly commands people to judge, commends people for judging, and judges himself.

The key point to understand is that not all judgment is wrong, just various types of judgment. The types of judgment that are wrong according to Jesus are condemnation, as well as hypocritical and self-righteous judgment. On the other hand, right judgment is commended by Jesus as we see above. Right judgment includes the judging of truth versus falsehood. The sincere, serious and sober judgment of our own sins, as well as the gentle, and compassionate judgment and correction of other's beliefs or sins.

Tragically, Satan is doing a masterful job in christianity's organizations in regard to confusing people over the issue of "judgment". People have been lead to believe that it is "un-loving" to correct someone who is in error, whether by word or deed. Certainly many have contributed to Satan's lie of "don't judge anyone" by being harsh, ungracious or unmerciful in their judgments. It is easy for a person - after being excoriated by a modern day Pharisee who is telling them that they are going to hell if they don't believe something that Jesus doesn't even address - to be pushed to believe that all "judgment" is wrong.

The reason we belive judgement is a bad thing is because we relize that we are NOT in a position, being seperatd from god by sin to say anyone is bad or what they did is bad. Judgement is saved for the one who is with out sin and know the true meanings behind the acts of man. If I were to say that (hypothetically) If Fred killed mike what he did was not acceptable and wrong, I would be right in doing so, Because God had already said that it was wrong. I am not say that Fred is a bad person, only that one thing Fred did was bad. If Fred was to come to God and appoligize for his actions, and ask for forgiveness That would be great, I for one would most likely not hold it against him anyway. but it would be up to God to decide if Fred was sincere in his repent, not yours, not mine, not even satan, who was probably the reason he commoited hios crime could say that this man is bad only God! I hope this has cleared the matter up for you if not I am sorry for wasting your time, I will pray that you will begiven the understanding so you will get the reason for this.

Galatians 6:1-10
1 Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3 If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, 5 for each one should carry his own load. 6 Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor. 7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

People think judgment is wrong because they do just what you did. They fail to read on to verse 5 of Matthew 7."....,first cast the beam out of thine own eye ; (and then) shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of they brother's eye." ; What Jesus is trying to say is that He doesn't give a bunch of hypocrites the authority to judge those who are trying to do what is right."Brethren if a man be overtaken in a fault , ye which are spiritual (Note: not hypocrites) restore such and one in a spirit of meekness ; considering thyself , lest thou also be tempted.Bear ye one another's burdens and so fulfil the law of Christ." Galatians 6:1-2. As Christians we should seek judgment , lest we find ourselves at fault when it is to late. Take a look at Matthew 18:15-17.

God is the judge or all people. We are not to judge other people. That does not mean that we can't discren between good ideas and bad ideas - God wants us to learn and to grow. He also wants us to stop sinning - so in a way, we judge ourselves.

But the Bible teaches that to whatever standard you use to judge other people, God will use that standard to judge you. If you cut your fellow man some slack, God will cut you the same amount of slack.

If you are unforgiving of your fellow man, then God will be unforgiving of you.

I don't necessarily think judjment a bad thing. Depends on who is doing the judging. We are all fallible and so should not judge another. How can sinners judge sinners? Discernment is altogether something else. God judging is a very good thing, as everything He does is good. Just as in worship is a very good thing, but not idol worship. So again, it depends.

I agree with your statement, but I usually use the word discernment, when talking about trying to correct things. I think too many people are concerned by the word judgement, because they are very scared about how their actions and choices will be judged by God.
