but i disagree to that, he says at the bottom of the pickle bottle the liquid is vegetable to which i strongly disagree and told him its sumting else used to preserve pickle. i believe what i said is right.

Oil is not used to preserve pickles. In fact, "pickling" is a very precise process, involving lots of salt, sugar, and vinegar. These ingredients bind up the moisture in the item being pickled, preventing bacterial growth and preserving the product for a long time.

That is not to say some oil may not be used in a particular pickle recipe. But by and large, none is contained in an average, traditional pickle recipe.

Most pickled veggies are preserved in salt and vinegar. It's called brine.

Vinegar is used for pickling, at least I've never used oil.
