Just moved into apt. at night onto the window cill and makes so much noise. He's like 13 lbs so he really is loud when he jumps off onto the carpet. I dont want to be mean and like lock him in the bathroom, but he does it every night I am loosing sleep! What can i do that wont cost me much or anything, and without being mean, cause i feel bad enough he has always lived in houses up until now, and he's three so I think he is annoyed.

Get him a set of little cat stairs. You can get these for $20 or $30 at any pet store. It will be a lot better on his joints too, not having to jump with all that weight, and you won't even hear him at night. I got a nice set of pet stairs for my parents' older arthritic cat (she could barely get up onto the bed and it was hurting her to jump down.) She and my parents' other cat caught on right away what the stairs were for, and they use them constantly.

I have a chair by one window with a throw on it. My cat just sits on the back of the chair and looks out the window, and the throw keeps the chair from collecting cat hair. I have a utility table by the other window, which he does have to jump down from - he's also heavy so it's a loud landing, but that noise doesn't really bother me.

Put orange or other citrus on the windowsill.

My d-i-l said she has been using Pine-O-Pine because their cat hates the smell.

And I have heard of others using the cleaner Fabuloso (smells really good), but it doesn't deter my cats at all. In fact, they walk right on the floor where I've just mopped with it. Guess it depends on the cat. I think they have a citrus scent now...maybe that's the key.
