What an excellent way to spin doctor a question....
If you gave the 2nd friend all the change $2.00, you would owe him $3.00 which is the price of the coke =$5.00, you still owe the 1st friend $10.00 which = the 15.00 borrowed. You confused the money spent on the coke with the money that you paid back.

The mathematical relationship between what you borrowed and what you spent is not dependent upon each other. You could have spent the entire $5 and still owe $15.00.
So it doesn't matter what you spent, it's what you owe.
