instead of lying them on a table with nurses and mom looming over them. That way in my opinion I can turn them around immediately and have them in my arms comforting them. Not to mention the comfort of being in moms arms thru the whole thing.

I was wondering how many other moms do the same thing?

unfortunately many nurses will fight me over my right to do this. I have waited extra amounts of time until the office finds a nurse willing to do the vaccination this way. It is worth the fight and the wait in my opinion.

I always held both of mine and the nurses expected that. THat's kindof weird they wanted you to lay your kid on the table in my opinion but I guess different nurses do it different ways. Do it whichever way you feel is the best...afterall you're their mom and have earned that right!

That is strange. At our hospital they prefer that the parents hold the children in their laps. I was told that this minimizes the struggle and the trauma for all invovled. It makes sense. I can't believe anyone would fight you on this. Good for you for sticking to your guns.

I sat in my mother's lap when i was little and she would tell me to lokk the other way and it wouldn't hurt. AND IT DIDN't! This helps a lot with youner children. I got over it after a few years. good luck it sounds like you really care about your children's emotions

Well, I look at it as, it is very brief, they forget about it soon and would rather get it over with in the best way so the person administering the shot does their job most efficiently. The pain will be the same whether you are holding them or not. Its not like later on they'll be thinking "wow and mom didnt even hold me when they were causing me pain".

I figure it as, the doctor's is rarely pleasant, so hey, may as well get them used to it.

Yup, I held my kids when they got shots and still hold their hand now that the older two are teenagers if they need shots or get blood drawn.

Where I have my baby immunized they have you hold them in your lap with their legs between yours while you hold their arms steady... it seems to be the best option.
