Birds can't smell very well anyway. They can't smell your hands.

Pine and wood bedding is very bad for birds and all animals. But since you haven't listened to me the last three or four questions, I may as well let you wander in stupor. But for the sake of your bird, pine bedding causes respiratory problems and if ingested, can kill if it does something to the crop or it may have trouble being passed.

If you're going to give them a nesting box and let them breed despite the obvious health issues and your blatant lack of knowledge and inexperience, tear up some newspaper as nesting material and put it in place of the shavings. It's absorbent, soft, inexpensive, easy to change, totally safe. At the very least, you're not subjecting them to improper breeding AND respiratory problems.

To answer your question, she may be making more room (meaning you gave her too much for her own comfort) or she's digging the nest deeper or she doesn't like her nesting material.

Parakeets do not need nesting material. Parakeets usually lay their eggs in a hollow in a tree with the eggs laying right on the bottom.
If you look at your nest box, if it is made for a parakeet, there will be a little concave section in the middle of the box. This is where she will lay her eggs. She doesn't want the nesting material and that is why she is taking it out. If your parakeet doesn't have a mate she will continue to lay eggs but they will not hatch. She has had to be bred to produce baby parakeets.

The Hen knows what she wants for the bedding. Wood is the worse. In all of my nest boxes, I have no bedding. This type of bedding dries out the eggs and the hatch rate will be really low. Do not use anything in your nest boxes, except the wood bottom of your nest box. We cut out a bowl in the bottom of the nest box. So the hen could lay nicely in that carved out bowl and her eggs would stay nicely under her. Newspaper is not a good thing either. To have sucess with your hatching eggs, use no nest material. Good luck. You do not want your eggs to dry out. They hen is so smart and in the wild they do not use wood shavings or newspaper. Try to develop your nesting area's like it would be in the wild.

She is just adjusting the nest how she likes it. Handle the nest and the egg as little as possible

Hi there. I think instinct dictates that she makes the nest. Use shredded newspaper, string, cotton and place it in a corner of the cage. That way she will pick and choose. Have a tweet year.

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/KABej
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

You need to have bedding in the box. Pine shavings are fine, so is shredded paper. If you don't have bedding, the chicks may get splayed legs from not having any resistance in the box.

She is removing the excess bedding, don't worry.
