Treatment

Treatment is management of the underlying cause. Little evidence exists to support the use of cough suppressants or mucolytic agents for cough, but patients often expect or request such treatment, and multiple options exist. Coughing is an important mechanism for clearing secretions from the airways and can assist in treating respiratory infections. Therefore, cough suppression in infectious conditions should be done with caution. Nonspecific treatments for cough should be reserved as much as possible for patients with a URI and for those receiving therapy for the underlying cause but for whom cough is still troubling.

As long as it's not something serious like bronchitis, a cough supressant should do the trick. You can try something like Robitussin, but I would recommend Buckley's Mixture - it's an all natural cough medicine that works amazingly well. They actually sell it with a guarantee. Just don't let her smell it before she takes it - it smells like Vicks VapoRub. And keep a glass of water or juice nearby to drink right after she takes it, because it tastes horrible. Most pharmacies like CVS, RiteAid, and Eckerd sell it.

It can turn in to something very serious if she dose not get to the Dr. asap she can try Tylenol cold and sinusw/ cold burst they have a day and night time formula also some sort of vapor rub at night. but like i say she can have something serious. I know all about not being able to go to the Dr for all sorts of reasons, but it could be something that the Dr is going to have to treat her for . if it is not better in about 5 days tell her no matter what she has got to go!!!!!!!

It depends on why she's coughing. Tell her to try drinking hot lemon and honey, or hot bouillon. And take vitamins, if she has them. And use steam: Sometimes that will calm coughs. An if she has them, suck on zinc lozenges: Sometimes that soothes coughs and throats too.

If that doesn't work, try to get someone to help her get to the hospital: My father was recently diagnosed with pneumonia because he didn't take care of it sooner.

Good luck!
