Cats are goofy like that, sometimes they do this when they are getting ready to pounce! Now, if you have a nice kitty, and they pounce, it's all in fun, but if you have a bad kitty, and they stare then decide to pounce on your face, you may want to invest in a "NO" bottle. (squirt bottle with water and a good, long stream) My cat never wins a staring contest, but she sure does try. Eventually, she rolls her eyes at you, blinks and turns her head. No kidding, she actually rolls her eyes at you! Talk about attitude.

By the way, if you have any kids under ten, go out and get the book Bad Kitty by Nick Bruel, it really puts cat ownership into a really funny perspective!

Because potential prey can dart off in the blink of an eye, cats are built not to blink as often as humans. What's more, when hunting, cats are extremely still, as most prey can detect the slightest bit of movement, like blinking.

One of my cats always wins, the other is too shy to compete.

Hee hee... I love this question... if my cat ever is sitting across the room, and I want to get her to come over to pet her, I get into a staring contest with her, after a couple of minutes, EVERY time she will come running across the room to jump in my lap.. .pretty funny.

One reason Tika does 'the stare' with me is to tell me she needs to be fed or have her litterbox changed....or when she wants me to come downstairs and be with her.

Cats really are uncomfortable with humans staring at them. They consider it aggressive, and will start grooming themselves as a distraction.

No, neither of mine do. Sophie is fearless but she'd get bored. Poppy is autistic and will rarely meet someone's eyes for any length of time.

No! Not all the time but most of the time. Usually it's, because he/she is mad at you
