Say now that you form friends with someone and you are quite close. But then the topic of religion comes up, something that both or one of the friends comes up. But the friends have different belief systems (like Christian blief versus Athiesm or other).

Should one cast away the friendship since there will be a thought in each person that the other has the wrong idea or stay friends?

I have actually lived this situation. I didn't cast aside my friend, rather we had open discussions about our differences. And mutual love and respect saw us through. I don't know that either of us did much to change the other's viewpoints, but we came away with a better understanding of one another. And lots to think about. Hope this helps and good luck to you!

Honestly I disagree. As a Christian I think it is a mission of Christians to befriend the rest of the world as Christ did, not to condemn them as some churches would do. I think that if both parties can come to an understanding of respect for the other's beliefs there should be no problem with a friendship.

The Bible counsels relationships by understanding the following:

Do not be misled. Bad associations spoil useful habits
-1 Corinthians 15:33

This is a principle that covers everything, however, you have to understand what the Scriptures say regarding association and how it can affect you personally.

You might not think that habits can rub off...but they do over time.

Stay friends.

I hate cigarettes. It makes me sick just thinking about them.

I have friends who love smoking them though and don't see anything wrong with it. They like the smell and even claim that cigarettes are not bad for your health.

I know they are wrong but that doesn't stop them being my friends.
