Is this conversion possible, and if so, what would I call it so I can purchase it?

I know that you can get this in Australia. It is just a short with a stereo 3.5mm plug and 2 6.3mm mono sockets. You could even make one yourself. A stereo plug has 3 wires in it. One left, one right and one neutral. or shared. You get 2 short wires with 2 strands on them and at the stereo end join 2 of them together so that you end up with 3 wires. Solder these to the 3 terminals in the stereo plug (doesn't matter where). Now take one of the strands of wire and solder it into one of the mono sockets and you should end up with what you need. (I would only do this if you can't just buy a ready made one)

Check Radio Shack they have all kinds of converters.
