Dalmatians do tend to be somewhat aggressive towards other dogs, and so do some Pitties ... usually to dogs that they did not grow up with. Both of these dogs are very strong-willed and require a firm hand in raising them ...(pretty sure you know that already, since your Pittie is already a year old).

Please keep in mind, no two dogs (regardless of breed) should be left alone, trusting 100% that they will not attack each other ... ever. Dalmatians are also not recommended for people with children, as they don't have the tolerance for children, that the Pit Bull has.

I personally don't believe any dog is vicious. It just all depends on how they were raised up. If they were raised up as puppies in a loving and caring home, with the proper discipline (and no, I'm not talking about kicking them, yelling at them, or beating them senseless with an object or your hands...), then they would normally grow up to be good natured and well balanced dogs. If, by some inhumane person, they were treated badly as puppies, then they'll normally grow up to be vicious and mean dogs as adults. As for putting a puppy with an older dog.. I would first make sure that the older dog has been around other dogs before, and to make sure you give both dogs equal attention. I know when we got our 4 mo. old puppy, our 2 yr. old adult female was really jealous of her. We just remained patient and payed attention to both equally. The puppy is now almost 6 months old, and we've not had any problems. They play together and sleep together at times.

Like you, I've never met a mean dalmation. They are more or less considerred firehouse mascots, and were originally bred to run with carriages, after all. I would be more worried about the pit bull, unless he is VERY stable and VERY well trained.

Good luck!

there are no vicious dogs, only misunderstood dogs and untrained dog owners. As long as your pitbull is an even tempered you should be fine....oh yes start obediance training at around 8 weeks old.

Any dog can be viscous or friendly. Dalmations have been overbred and inbred a lot, so they can be a little more skittish, but they can be sweet pets if raised right.
