When you make your decision, take some time to consider the following: What is the bride to be's taste? The groom's disposable income? What your lifestyle will be like after you're married?
Some women are really into big jewelry, some just want a simple band. And some are very sentimental - they won't want to "trade up" a small diamond for a bigger one later in the marriage.
If the groom feels very confident that his salary will be six figures, it wouldn't really do to have a ring so tiny that one needs a microscope to detect it's presence, especially if the couple is into smoozing with other six figure salary couples and the wives all sport ginormous rocks. On the other hand, an athletic woman might not want a big stone on her hand if they're into rock climbing and skyjumping - might be inconvenient for her lifestyle.
The size of the ring doesn't necessarily denote how much a man loves a woman, but rather the effort he puts into giving her a very special gift when he asks for her hand.

First of all, don't go along with that hype about spending two or three months' salary on a ring; that is just marketing mumbo-jumbo. You just buy a ring you can comfortably afford; don't go into debt over a ring. There are beautiful rings available for $100 and up - though around 600-800 is probably average. A mature woman will know that the symbolism of the ring is what counts.

A man should spend whatever amount he is comfortable with that won't break the bank. The first engagement ring I received cost about $60. I don't think a person has to save for months to be able to afford some $2,000 ring. The one I have now (been married 8 yrs) cost about $300 and it was just fine and beautiful.

It doesn't matter much you spend.. just that the ring suits her. Like if shes a white gold girl don't go yellow gold, etc. I'm sure she has some idea of what she would like her ring to look like. If shes a vintage chick maybe look for an antique ring. If shes modern.. princess cut is good. If shes a country girl.. maybe a round stone or a detailed band.. Just match the ring to her :) Good Luck!!

I would be truly happy if my band was real and the stone wasn't. I want to like it and all that matters is that this person has made the commitment to spend the rest of their life with you. Price shouldn't matter to the woman. I would rather work on having a house and a place to have a family.

the price should be what you can afford. I know some people who put themselves into debt before they got married because they had to have this big expensive ring. not only that, but if you have to take out a loan for a ring, you will be paying for it too because you will be married before it's paid off. the size and price of the ring should have nothing to do with getting married

What he grosses in a month should be the worth of an engagement ring.

well.....
Let me help you with this one. You have to think about the following fundamental questions...
1. How much do you earn....
2......and how much can you realistically save up
3. How much do you actually love her...?
4. How would you feel if you bought a really expensive ring, to find out the following week that she had lost it/misplaced it/dog ate it..etc?
5. What would you get in return?
In my opinion get a cheap, plastic, diamond stunner in a very expensive box ..........then take her shopping. There's nothing worse than getting a revolting ring that you are made to wear...no, seriously, there's nothing better than choosing together!
good luck....bet your next questions going to be "whats the best way to propose!?"

Depeneds on your income lol..if your only getting..250 bucks a week you would want to get like a $180 ring..but now if your getting like a large check...then you might want to get her a 300-400 one...the wedding ring is the one that you kinda want to splurge on...but you got to make sure you dont spend to much becuz you dont want to buy it and then have her loose it.

I have always heard 2 months salary, but it really depends on the woman. I would be happy with something that has great sentimental value and not just monitary value. Do keep in mind that she will be wearing this peice of jewelry for the rest of her life.
