The Best thing would be to get a strongs concordance to do word searches and to get an Interlinear Bible which is made up of Hebrew, Greek, and English.
Stick with the KJV though.
The best commentary on the Bible is the Bible itself by the Spirit..
:
Prov 1:23
Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

I prefer the NIV myself, but in the KJV, I own a Thompson's Chain-Referrence bible, that is awesome for studies. I also like the greek interlinear new testament, which paralells the greek language in the new testament side by side with the english translation. It will show the litleral word-for-word translation of the scripture, and if you study it as it is laid out, you will notice that it is not gramatically like the english language, but it often uses word translations that there was not a common word for in the 1600's. I find that if I want to do an in-depth study, I should use all three, cause the Thompson's has a lot of topical helps, pics of the region, maps, outlines, and cross referrence information you can't find anywhere else.
Hope this helps...

It's best not to have a lot of notes and commentary. The Holy Spirit illuminates your spirit by the pure word of God over everything else. There are many archaic words and phrases that our reason needs help with though, and the Defined King James has foot notes regarding these that don't interfere with or add man's words to the bible.

There were five KJVs, created over a 150 year time period before they sufficiently matched the beliefs of the Church of England and was "Authorized", so which are you talking about. The Authorized one or one of the earlier ones?
