Dogs want to express their dominance. If they feel they are dominate over the said person they may show it with what we see as aggression and they see as a natural behaviour. Another reason is another wild instinct is if they sense this person is either in or trying to become a part of the "pact" and they are sensed as being weak, the dog may want to eliminate this individual from the pact.

Dogs are not stupid, they can tell is someone is afraid of them and that's why they act aggressive. I'm a small person and have had dogs all my life and been around dogs and haven't seen 1 yet that I would be scared of. In 1990 I did work for the US Census Bureau and had to go from door to door to talk to people, meet alot of growling-barking dogs, I just talked to them in a nice tone of voice and kept on doing my job and even got to pet some vicious dogs. Most dogs are all bark and no bite!

Dogs can not tell the difference between fear and aggression. When a person is afraid of a dog, they send off signals that the dog confuses with aggression. The dog then responds in defense. That is why they seem to be aggressive, but it is just a reaction to the fear.

First of all dogs can sense the fear, make sure the people are relaxed. Also, a dog kept as a pet should NeVeR be aggresive toward people! Also, if a dog smells fear then natural instinct means danger, so the dog will react!
