I wouldn't worry too much about either of those. You should be asking what has a good macro mode. Thats the close up pictures mode. Canons have the best one I have seen so far.

Hi, You should look for manual overide settings and accesories capabilities, such cable release for avoiding blurred images and external flash. The best ones are ring lights that can be attached to the lens tread. Using this item gives unwanted reflections and a even illumination. If ringlights isn't an option, you may also look for using a standard hotshoe flash using a remote cord or slave flash. All units should be pointed in a 45 degrees from the item to avoid, you bet, reflections. If the light coming from the flashes are too harsh, you may put a diffuser. I once used a cut away bottom from isopropyl alcohol in the flash head and let the camera meter do the job. Also you should put your camera in a sturdy tripod to avoid unwanted movements and blured images using slow shutter speeds. Don't forget to close your aperture to the smallest setting e.g (f/22, f/11) to obtain the sharpest image from the center to the corners of your picture. Unless you only want to publish the pics in the Web, a 3.2 to 5 Mega Pixels will be more than enough, but if you want larger prints than 8x10, look for a 10 to 12 MP. Hope this helps. Good luck!!!

Most current digital cameras should do a good job for this, I believe. It depends on what kind of results you are looking for; If you're going to do this professionally (For online sales or catalogues and so on) you want to go up in price and get a digital SLR camera. On the other hand, if you're just going to sell a few items on eBay then most of the current $200-$300 cameras should do the job.

One thing to keep in mind is that lighting plays a big part when it comes to taking close up pictures of coins and jewelry. Make sure you find a good article about this, that will teach you about light tents to get even lighting.
