The boots worn by the troops in the US Army are actually very good. They cost something around $130 a pair, are gore-tex lined and have the same dual cushioning as that found in a running shoe. IMO they are the best boots ever issued to a soldier.

Here is a link to one of the companies that makes them:

Aren't we lucky that we are not innocent Iraqi or Afghan civilians who are being killed over there daily. Yes I feel sorry for the British and American soldiers out there but then they are prosecuting an illegal war murdering civilians. Obviously I don't blame the Soldiers they have been lied to like the rest of us but I feel worse for the civilians who did not sign up to go to war. Look at the US in Vietnam, 34 years later children are being born with serious deformities because of agent orange. this is after killing 3 million Vietnamese. what will the true cost of the Iraq and Afghan wars? Bring the soldiers home we have been lied to they are dying for nothing

In the desert, soldiers wear tan suede combat boots with canvas ankles for ventiliation. Tan suede boots are also the new standard uniform boot to go with the ACU, but they might be all-leather and/or insulated depending on what weather conditions they need function in.
Before they switched, and for those who haven't yet changed over to the new uniform, standard footwear was all black, all leather combat boots. There were of course variations with canvas inserts, special toes, etc., but standard was your basic all-black combat boot.
Unless you're in the military, you can NOT get either of these through AAFES, you can't even log on to the site. If you're looking for boots, check around at military surplus stores near you. If they don't have them, they might be able to find them or direct you further.

Army boots. They wore Army boots in Viet-Nam, and Korea, and Grenada, and all throughout World Wars I & II, they wore Army boots. Even in boot camp, they wore Army boots. If they are in a parade, they wear (highly polished) ....Army boots. The Marines wear.......Marine boots. The Navy wears Navy boots, The Air Force wears several different kinds of....Air Force boots.
Kidding aside, Army (aka combat) boots usually have heavily lugged soles and various uppers like leather, insulated winter boots, light, water draining poly materials for jungle, maybe "cool" boots for desert, chemical/biological proof (?) boots, mountain boots, or whatever they might come up with. Or maybe not. You can usually find them in Army Surplus or Army/Navy type stores. They have all kinds of neat & cool & 'stylin' stuff in them.
