It's not really a choice. However, it is effective on an emotional level. Religion is all about emotional manipulation of human insecurities.

The free will is not in the destination but in the fact that you are even given a choice at all. You possed a didatic question that if you told me to give you my wallet that I would have the choice to give it up or die. Well that is the very definition of a choice, two possiblities both with oppossing outcomes. What i think you are trying to wrap your mind around is the simplicity of the choice. Lets go back to your question about the wallet, i would have to weigh the outcomes and choose the best possible one. I would of course give you my wallet because it only has the sum of 3 cents in it currently. So I chose to live rather than sacrifice my life for the 3 cents. Pretty easy decision much like salvation. You either choose to bend your pride and ask Jesus to come into your heart or you die with that pride in knowing that you didn't bend your will to God.

Since when is free will someting that is given or taken away by a person? The question of "give me the wallet or I will kill you" isn't something I think God asks, but some *** on the street. If you want something along that line, then how about 'Merry Me or I will leave you." A person might see that as a no-choice too. As to "Give me the wallet or I will Kill you," I choose option C - how about I kill you? Is that an option that you can take? It isn't about the choice, it is about what the choice ends in. Free will is based on the choices that you make - there rarely is just one - the free will is for you to choose.

You do have the choice. You can 'A' give him your wallet, or 'B' get shot and possibly die. Your choices are rather crapy as both are negative, but you do have a choice. No one is going to force you to choose one or the other. Good thing that God has given us at least one pleasing choice. It is like if God said to you, "take the million dollars (heaven) out of my hand or I'll kick you in the nuts (hell)." Now that is a choice I would like to make. You must realize that there are some whom are a bit sadist and would like the kick in the nuts more than the money, but God is not going to force you to choose either one. You have the choice, and therefore, you have free will.....and you can take that to the bank!

You hit the nail on the head. In fact, with free-will, you would have the ability to do something so bizarre that God did not know you were going to do it, you would have the ability to "shock" God by doing something so totally unexpected.
Amazing how hypocritical God is, actually he is quite the jerk. God supposedly makes us imperfect, then supposedly gives us free will, and then punishes us for messing up. What a bonehead he is. You would not do that to your worst enemy, let alone your "children".
And I think most people missed your point. They missed the fact that God actually has a gun to our head (if we believe in him) that states we either believe in him and do what he wants or we spend eternity in pain and suffering. But out of the other side of his mouth states that we have free-will. Not much of free will, either we do what he wants or will suffer forever. Hmmm........makes God kind of a jerk, once again.
And for those of you who think that God knowing what we are going to do prior to us doing it is still free-will, that makes no logical sense. Take God knowing that you will die driving a car off of a cliff, the exact time, date, month, year, etc. Does that mean that you have a choice of getting out of that death? No, because God is a supposedly perfect being and he could not be wrong about your death. You have no choice because God would know the type of car that you drove, etc. If you drove that car off the cliff because a deer jumped out and you swerved to miss it, all the events up to that point would have to match to get you and the deer at the right place at the right time.

Free will doesn't mean whatever you do is ok. And using the same line of reasoning as you posted: Is it a good idea to to run red traffic lights? You can use your free will, either to stop or run, but you know what the consequences could be.

to be honest with you, going to heaven or hell is also a part of the free will that He gave us. Even though Jesus died for our sins, and it is a free gift, we have to make the choice to accept His payment for our sin or not. It is HIS WILL that all come to the knowledge of the truth, however it is OUR free will that makes us decided between heaven and hell.

You are right. God bestows free will on us, that is we have the rational sense to freely and responsibly choose to conduct our life with knowledge and wisdom. If we don't learn to choose correctly, or refuse to make noble choice, we are going against our rational sense, that is already our hell.
