I think because most people want to believe they can "snap out of it" and will themselves to getting better. There is a stigma attached with mental illness and alot of people are afraid of being judged by others. Some people don't really acknowledge mental issues as being legitimate illnesses and therefore don't want to treat them as such...

Well it's hard because first of all you have to admit to yourself that you have faults or problems and you need to seek assistance from other people to help you out. Not everybody can freely admit that.

Secondly it's difficult because you then have to ACT upon it. It's much easier to sit back and complain and feel sorry for yourself then to take action and go about finding a solution, and then implementing that solution.

And thirdly, it's hard to be persistent and easier to quit if the first attempt at fixing the problem doesn't work. You have to keep trying and trying. It takes will power and discipline, which are qualities not everyone possesses.

Because, at the same time you know you need help, you are AFRAID (possibly) at what the outcome will be. What if your friends find out?? family members?? What will they think, will they still accept you for who you are? I`d say, go for the help, if your friends dont like who you are afterwards, then so be it, i guess they werent real friends to begin with. This is coming from a former cutter... I got up the courage to ask my stepmom and dad if i could see a counselor. They told me i had a lot of strength in telling them, I thank god everyday that i said something, God knows where my life might be...Oh , and by the way, my friends know, they still love me. i guess i scored in two aspects of the story!

It's hard to get help because as human beings it's drilled into our minds from birth forward that asking for help is a sign of weakness. And then there are the "good" days,- which make you question whether you *really* need help. Don't buy in to that crap. If you feel like you need help, get it.

Because when we actually get help we have to face reality and it's easier to put it off or ignore it. It's easier to tell yourself that you will do it tomorrow or next week but it's hard when you make yourself do it today. It may be hard to get yourself to get the help but I can tell you that once you get the help it becomes not only easier but you begin to wonder why you put it off for so long. You should do whatever it takes to make yourself happier. You are the best advocate for yourself. Good luck.

It took me ten years to finally get help for myself. I kept coming up with excuses not to. I drank to bury the way I felt. When I finally got help and started seeing a counselor I couldn't believe I had waited so long. Going to a counselor or therapist was great because I was talking with someone who wasn't in my life and was objective in what they saw and gave me positive feedback that helped me in so many ways.

it is hard. You must get someone to believe you. Keep calling, get an appointment and make them see that you are in need of help.

The answer to your question is that most people are afraid to change. It's hard, I know.

your question is vague. help with WHAT??

if it's for your mental well being and you can't afford a therapist, look in the phone book for your local mental health society. they can refer u to someone who can help and for what you can afford. good luck to you.

because some people don't hear what your saying, if so keeping looking for someone who does. people do not hear you for whatever reason but please do not let your need die upon deaf ears, keep talking until someone hears you and they will don't give up.
