It always happens. I eat breakfeat or lunch or dinner, I grab a peice of gum. It doesn't matter the flavor or the size, but by the time is loses it's flavor (usually a good amount of time, but it doesn't last hours.) I suddenly feel really hungry but a small snack fills me up. I am naturally skinny and tall with a fast metabolism. Why do I feel hungry after chewing gum?

thats because whilst chewing your brain mistakenly thinks you are eating and sends a message to your belly that food is on its way and so you your belly waits and all enzymes get active for the process of breaking down the food and when it doesn`t actually get anything you get hungry. i know it sounds like an old wife`s tale but that is what is it.

Not really it only makes you MORE hungry. When you chew it sets off a string of hormones that makes your stomach get ready to churn food. But it also does stop your hunger for a little while because of the extra sugar that is in the gum. So yes and no. For an hour away I would say use gum because it will take the edge off of hunger if it was longer than an hour than gum wouldn't work.

Your body believes that your eating by chewing gum. The brain is conditioned to think that it's recieving nutrients by way of food which you are depriving your body when you eat gum. ( chewing +no food=hungry) Try cutting the gum out. If you are still hungry anyway and do not want to gain weight cut your portions down and eat more frequently during the day.

Chewing gum works air into your saliva, which is then of course swallowed, so you're essentially swallowing air. This may account for the feeling of hunger.

maybe because the action of chewing tells your stomach food is on the way... when no food arrives your stomach will soon tell you its hungry. make sense?
