I have at least a dozen Wiccan friends (both online and offline) with Atheist boyfriends. Generally, on the religion topic, everything is always just peachy.

On the other hand, I have a couple of Wiccan friends whose boyfriends are Christians and that situation is..........tense.

Since the Y!A consensus (at least from some folks, who shall remain screennameless) is that Atheists are as dogmatic as Christians, why do Wiccans and Atheists get along so famously when Christians and Atheists don't?

Wiccans aren't forceful or snobby. I have NEVER come across a Wiccan who wants to legislate their particular beliefs, rituals, behavioral standards, etc, into secular law. I've never been stopped by a Wiccan on the street or been woken up by a Wiccan ringing my doorbell wanting me to take their literature and listen patiently as they proselytize at me. I've never been told by a Wiccan that they are absolutely sure that I'm going to suffer forever in a place of pain and misery for not believing the same thing and in the same way that they do. I've never been told by a Wiccan that they think I completely DESERVE this.

Wiccans take a very refreshing approach as far as I've seen. They have their way, I have my way. They are satisfied with their way and I'm satisfied with mine. AND THEY LEAVE IT AT THAT. Christians, on the other hand, never really seem to be able to leave it as "we'll agree to disagree". If they could leave it that way (and didn't try to force people, through law, to adhere to their practices, behaviors and morality) then I wouldn't put up so much of a fuss. But IN GENERAL, they don't (or can't) leave it at that.

Because Wiccans keep their religion to themselves. Every Wiccan learns to do that early.

Atheists are fine with people having their own religion, so long as they know to keep it to themselves.

Unfortunately, both attitudes are completely against what a Christian believes.

Which is why Atheists and Christians don't get along. Because an Atheist wants the Christian to learn to keep their religion to themselves and just let everyone else live their lives without Christian interference.

But Christians think everyone needs to be Christian, or live by Christianity, whether they want to be or not and will try to force everyone around them to become Christian too.

I think its right that Wiccans believe in live and let live. Makes it easier. Its also probably one of the reasons the religion is growing so fast.

I think atheists and Wiccans are kindred spirits. We both offend the Christians and we both get told we are evil, immoral, going to hell, worship satan...etc. I'm an atheist that doesn't try to convert people. And Wiccans do not try to convert people. I think we all believe in a live and let live mentality. But from what I have read we both do not want religious views to run over into our laws. I guess it boils down to the fact that we seem to have a good bit in common...except for the belief in gods. But we don't seem to argue that point as much as with Christians.

Because Atheists know that Wiccans aren't trying to force their beliefs on them or trying to re-write the Constitution to make this a "Wiccan" nation, the way Christians are!!! Atheists may believe that Wiccan beliefs are bunk, (I don't!) but at least those beliefs are benign and don't harm anyone, unlike Christian beliefs! If Christians could at least behave themselves POLITICALLY, then Atheists (and lots of other folks!) would find them more tolerable, if not likable...

The reason Christians and Atheists do not get along is that whole Christian thing is based on dogma and scripture - and atheists belive it is all rubbish. By the way, I am wiccan and live in a small conservative town full of right-wing Christian types who regularily fill the editorial pages with hatred against gays, etc (go figure?!) I have had to learn to keep my temper in check and just seek out people who are well read and informed.

Who said Atheists are dogmatic? If that dogma is "There is no god, so live and let live" then that might explain it. Christards think we must be just as religious and dogmatic as them, but it is not the case.

If your doorbell rings by the hand of some missionaries on Saturday morning, I can guarantee that it wont be a Pagan or an atheist. We don't try to proselytize or force people to live by our rules. that could be why we get along so well.

Wiccans are bloody sexy, and that threatens Christians. Atheists, on the other hand, undermine the placid mental off switch of Christians, and that's worse.

Probably something to do with the fact that Wiccans don't go around touting themselves and shoving their religion in the atheists' faces. Nor do they go around telling people that their way is the only way and everyone else is going to "hell". Nor do they preach something and practice the exact opposite.

In my experience, Wiccans live and let live. So do atheists. So long as religio-nuts don't bug them.

On the evil scale, wiccans are doing very well; maybe because there is very little if any evil inherent in the religion, maybe just because they're the persecuted minority now.

Christianity, on the other hand... not doing that great.
