and what does it mean for you to be stationed in a different country, in other words does it mean you have to live there or something.

us soldiers are sationed in other countries due to obligations that go back throughout history (ie were in germany beacuse of world war 2 as well as Japan)

yes you live in the host country (im a soldier with the 1st Infantry Divison) and my base is in a german city. i live on post but you can get off post housing and live on the economy. its intresting to be in another country you get to travel (time permitting) ive been all over europe because of it,

They are stationed there to protect U.S. global interest and allies. As far as being stationed there it is what it is. You live there like it or not however long the military says. Depends on location tours/assignments can last 1 year say in Korea to if lucky and willing 20+ years at Germany. Just depends on the luck of the draw.

So is it safe to assume you are thinking about joining the armed services, or just taking an interest? Anyway, yes if you are stationed in another country you will be living there for as long as you are assigned there. Could be months or years depending on your rotation period. We need to have troops stationed in various countries for various reasons, sometimes it's current event or sometimes just because we have a base there. Also if you are married or have kids they might to go live there as well or you might actually be parted from your family (Husband, wife or kids)

Along with the above answers, the U.S. military also deploys military to be stationed around the world for quick mobilization in the event we have to go to war again. The principle is to strike fast and strike hard.

Of course, if you are stationed in another country you are going to live there. You can't commute.

Yes, you live where you are stationed. Sometimes you can't bring your family unless command sponsored...

They are stationed in Korea (for example) to protect the DMZ.

yes, you live there. my dad was in the navy for 25 years and we lived on Guam for 5. we almost went to live in japan.
