His name is Spud and he's a few months old. He's been vomiting a lot and now he's started having sort-of 'spasms', where his muscles jerk and he swallows or gags. I took him to the vet and the vet said he didn't know WHAT it was, and sent me home with antibiotics. Needless to say, I'm not happy with that answer!

Spud seems to be alert, but has been acting as if he doesnt feel well the past two days, along with throwing up, trembling and having spasms. What could this be? He does go outside, but none of our cats have ever gotten into anything poisonous. The vet didn't even consider this possibility. He's been eating and drinking fine. I'm so worried! Please tell me what you think it could be!

I'm with everybody else - get a second opinion. If the vet didn't know what it was, then you shouldnt be giving it the antibiotics. Why medicate an animal with some medication if you don't even know what the problem is. Antibiotics are used for secondary bacterial infections. I work in an animal shelter, I give a lot of medication.

If you ever have further concerns about your animal, goto www.peteducation.com It's a fantastic site. I wouldn't recommend using it to treat your cat yourself, but atleast you can get an idea of what it might be - and understand the situation better then the vet may explain it to you (if s/he knew what s/he was talking about). =)

It could be any number of things (epilepsy and poisoning come to mind). I'd strongly suggest you find a new vet though... yours sounds incredibly poor! Antibiotics are only going to help if it's an infection. I'm not aware of many infections that would cause spasms without other "sickly" symptoms. Get a second opinion (and shred the original vets phone number!).

This sounds like an advanced case of an upper respertroy infection. It is the cat startting to sneeze and is starts having what we call faule seisurs. the vet should not have just sent you home but if the meds are zythromax than he is on the right think. if there is fluid comming out of the eyes or nose than this sounds right. keep him on this for a week, if he does not improve you need to be finding a new vet. I see this alot in our kittens that we get in. Upper repertory infections can got from minor to major in a few days with a little kitten.

Hi there... in all honesty, there are many possibilities which can cause a kitten to be expel and have spazms frequently,

Please consider an alternative veterinary opinion who specializes in feline-only care and discuss your concerns with them to determine if Spud should be immediately brought in to be evaluated and treated respectively. It's too difficult to provide you an accurate answer why Spud may be still sick as it could be anything such as accidental ingestion of foreign substances, toxins, maybe feline diseases/disorders, etc. Only a licenced veterinarian recommendations should be entrusted rather than any strangers here on Yahoo Answers despite how well-meaning the intentions.

Get a different vet! That vet does NOT sound very efficient! He should check all possibilities! If a cat gets into something like pesticides or fertilizers in your yard then that could definitely be the cause!
Good Luck!

If your cat goes outside, how do you know he didn't get into anything poisonous?? You can't be sure of that unless he si strictly indoors where he can't or you follow him the whole time he's outside. The vet should have asked or tested for that regardless. Why did he give him antibiotics??? I would definately see another vet, get a second opinion!

Well, I think you BETTER thake him to another vet. This could be very very serious. I had a cat die becasue of vomiting and stuff... he could be poisoned or have caught a bad virus. This is really serious and the best advice I can give you is to take him to another vet. Don't let your cat outside... that could possibly be where he caought whatever he has. Does he have his vaccionacions? I think you should take him back to your vet or just take him elsewhere where they care.

I work with animals every day and the first thing you should do is find another vet. sounds to me like your cat has some how ingested some kind of rodenticide..I say this because epilepsy or seizes don't usually accompany vomiting as you described. have you put out any mouse or rat poison lately,,or do you let the animal roam freely outside?

I would go to a different vet, that specializes in cats, and get a 2nd oppinion. Vomiting and spasms are not something I would play around with when it came to my babies.
