How many reps and how many times a week?

lots.

To get the best results you should train your abs with resistance exercises. No one trains their chest with 50+ rep sets of bench presses with an empty bar, so why do so many people train their abs with 50+ rep sets of crunches.

If you do three sets of 20 to begin with and work up by 5 per set each week. The thing about abs is that it is often the fat that is covering them that is the problem.
Doing crunches will not burn the fat away. You will need to do some cardio work to burn fat. Then combined with the crunches you will have abs.

If you get under 10% bodyfat, you will see your abs, everyone has abs. Get 10% or under bodyfat with exercise but if you want abs that stick out do crunches with resistance. To check your bodyfat percentage you can go to your doctors or do a test at a gym.

crunches work but you have to do loads to get abs. i do not believe in doing reps , i just do them till my muscles give up. at the moment it takes about 7-10 minutes till my muscles become sore. do not push yourself to hard and you should get better with time

you've have to look to do 3 to 4 sets.
15-20 times for each set.

Do it 3 times a week, lets say Mon, Wed and Sat.

You have to give your abs rest so as not to overwork them.

Remember diet is very important.
