It might be that treat is not that smelly. Many dog trainers use treats with a noticable smell. The typical dog biscuits (like Milkbone) are not flavored and are just hard flour-based baked dough.

It is more likely to be a problem with her ability to see where it landed. My dogs cannot easily find dark treats on dark floors or light colored treats on light floors, but if you put a dark treat on a dark floor they find it easily. I sometimes use a white paper plate to put dark colored treats on to help them find them when I am working with them.

If this has not been going on for long it might be that she has an upper respiratory ailment that should be seen by the vet.

Two year old Airedale ....mmmm ... didn't you know, they don't have a brain until they're 5 !!!! Not really, lovely breed, but for intelligent dogs they can be amazingly stupid sometimes!!!

Maybe she waits until you SHOW her that she can have it.I would think that this a plus for you, she will not just walk next to something that smells like food and just gobble it up.That is a goofy good, don't you think?

She may have no sense of smell. However, it could be just certain foods. Does she smell around to use the bathroom? Can she find her bowl of food at dinner time?

Dogs have been so inter-bred that they've lost their 'dogness' ... the skills they once needed to survive in the the wilderness. Mine does the same thing. He doesn't smell like dogs are supposed to smell. He doesn't hear like dogs are supposed to hear.

I have a min-pin who is that way. I don't know why but he does have trouble smelling things out......vet said he was healthy and normal. I agree with your analogy.....goofy dog!!

Could she possibly have a problem smelling... does she smell her regular food or do you also have to point that out? If she seems to smell other things it may just be tht the biscuits dont give out a very strong aroma. If he doesn't seem to be smelling other things you should take him to the vet to check him out.
