i love lime wire but you need to get spyware bot you can get it on the internet just Google spy ware and download it and adware alert they are both great internet and lime wire protectors and also to help with not getting viruses on the toolbar at the bottom of your screen right click on the little lime and click close it will help with not getting viruses i keep leaving it open down there and my computer crashed. when you right click on it and close it it will have a little box pop up that says limewire is shutting own that is a good thing it will block more viruses.

A brain. You can tell the difference between those pirate music videos and mere spyware by looking at the file size; if it is too small or much too large for what you are expecting, don't hit download. Also, read the EULA all the way through if you download any software; its not uncommon for them to bundle spyware with real programs.

If you think its too late, I recommend Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Norton Antivirus, which have fried many dangerous bugs. Turn on Windows Firewall too, or if you don't trust Microsoft there are plenty of aftermarket firewalls out there for you to choose from. I haven't needed to upgrade, but then again I don't use Limewire much anymore.

A good up-to-date Anti-Virus program and some common sense. Do not, for example download an mp3 which is 2KB in size! That is not realistic for an mp3; more like 5MB. Also avoid pretty much all of the program content as these can be assumed to be viruses. Look out for all of the similar and unrealistic file sizes. A program of 802KB size; I think not!
:-)
