Hey there,

I wouldn't buy anything. Get it for free.

If you have the Antiverims thing, do a seach for SMITFRAUDFIX in google and download the fix. You will have to reboot into safe mode to run the fix. Otherwise here are some good resources.

If the pop ups appear when you're online, activate your browsers pop up blocker. Go to tools - internet options - block pop ups.
But if they appear on your pc when you're not connected to the net then you have either spyware or adware on your pc. Run Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware SE Personal to get rid of them.
http://www.grisoft.com – AVG antivirus
http://www.avast.com – Avast antivirus
http://www.lavasoft.com - Ad-Aware SE Personal anti adware
http://www.safer-networking.org - Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware. Use the Teatimer settings to protect Internet Explorer, and the Immuniser to stop malware getting on your pc.
Also use Microsoft Defender and their online scans.

And these are useful utilities:

http://www.mozilla.com - Firefox web browser.
http://www.ccleaner.com Cr*pcleaner Registry cleaner and privacy tool
Winpatrol is a handy utility that manages cookies on your pc and stops unwanted changes to your startup folder.

Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.

Also,

Uninstall that POS!

I have been a fan of Norton/Symantec since 1996. I followed blindly until 2004 when I finally had enough of the junk and headaches that followed. I used everything from the single stand alone version all the way up to the Enterprise Edition. Since 1999, not much has changed with their service. They added some bells and whistles, yet it does not keep up with what is happening. And they continue to charge more and more. I haven't figured that out yet.

Avast is a great product at a great price (FREE) for home use.

TAKE IT ALL OFF!

Oh dude... I used to use Norton. I used it for 2 years. My computer got so slow from all the resources it used up. So I went to www.freewarefiles.com and downloaded Avast.

Make sure you delete all the crap that's left behind when you uninstall.

It's a good program... it runs fairly quietly in the background and my computer is so much faster now. While you are at it, you should have a good anti-spyware program on your puter as well. the one I use is Ad-Aware Personal. And yea, it came from freewarefiles.com too.

But if you absolutely insist on spending money... wasting money... the best of the best of the best out there could very well be Kapersky.

Oh, b4 i forget, a super firewall is the free one from ZoneAlarm.

You see, you don't need to spend any money... when you get all the good stuff for free.

Common sense is the best protection! There is no best anti virus software! Consider the fact that new viruses come out weekly, aint no virus software mfg even knows its out until its wreaked havoc all over the net! Stop usin them dumass p2p or file sharing sites! Where the bejeesus you think you are gettin them from?

Norton Internet Security or Trend Micro PC_Cillin is what I would recommend.

Here is a response to a similar question that was posted by someone else. I don't remember who buy I found it so complete & concise that I saved it :

You need to install one firewall.
The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out.
http://www.zonelabs.com Zone Alarm firewall OR
http://www.comodogroup.com/ - Comodo firewall.

You need to install one anti virus;
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/... -AVG anti virus or
http://www.avast.com - Avast Antivirus

You need all three anti spyware programs;
http://www.ewido.net - AVG(Ewido) anti trojan.
http://www.lavasoft.com - Ad-Aware SE Personal anti adware
http://www.safer-networking.org... - Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware. Use the Teatimer settings to protect Internet Explorer, and the Immuniser to stop malware getting on your pc.

You could go with ZoneAlarm Security Suite. That has it all, including a firewall.
