Just a basic roll call. Non-atheists need not answer, I specifically am asking for the atheist response.

Almost violently so -- I make Pope John Paul II look like a sympathizer.

With only the sole exception of a mother who cannot sacrifice her life to get the baby to viability (such as tubal pregnancies), I find nothing but contempt for women who abort.

Elesia: I assure you, I'm pure blood atheist. Ask Zero Cool... Zero's been around Y!A almost as long as I have, which is kinda scary to admit.

My reasons are logical and biological, not religious.

Gorgeous: There have been numerous studies that show that the suicide rate of women who are raped and abort is significantly higher than the suicide rate of women who are raped and carry, regardless of keeping or adopting.

The same effect is found with major clinical depression.

If it is moral to ban the use of drugs on the increased risk to a drug user, it is thus moral to ban abortion in rape cases for this same reason -- it helps protects the life of the mother.

Triforce: Depends on which branch of Satanism. LeVay'an Satanism is by its very definition atheistic, so you'd count there. :)

I wonder how Christians would react if they knew that many Satanists [I'd risk a small wager and say a majority] are in fact pro-life as well, viewing a woman who has sex as needing to be responsible for her choices (though some would make exceptions for health or rape, etc...)

Gorgeous: As mentioned above -- rape victims who have the abortion have higher suicide attempt rates and higher suicide completion rates than rape victims who carry to term (then adopt or keep the child).

If the abortions were forbidden, the suicide rate would drop.

Like it or not, abortion is rated as one of the highest stressors a woman can face in her life. Compounding the stressor of a rape with the stressor of an abortion is begging for trouble -- not necessarily on a case-by-case basis, but statistically.

NH Baritone is not I see. Your blog gives the impression you are, sir. I'm on the fence. I am against them but not to the point of taking it away from women. We should do more to stop them (pregnancies) in the first place then there would be no need for the debate.

I will vouch for this young pup's atheism as I have been around as long as he has.

I swear I was reading some atheist's blog that was all out against abortion. I have no idea who's it was now....

Yes, I see what you are saying. I am an atheist, and do believe it is a choice. I think it is barbaric and that if you are going to have sex you need to wrap the sasage before you do. Those who use it as a form of birth control are sick. However, having said that I also believe that there are circumstances beyond our control and sometimes it is the only option for somebody. I do not think that a fetus is a fully functioning human being and since I don't believe in a soul I don't think I am destroying gods creature. Also, people always say that could have been the next productive member of society, and being a pesimist, I say it could also be the next Hitler. Me, personally, I don't think I could ever have an abortion. Of course, I was not raped by my Daddy either or a crack head who got pregnant, ect.

Sorry JP, I am a nosy woman. I like the answers that I see so far

You have every right to your opinion but I wonder how you would feel is you were raped and found yourself pregnant. Since you are physically incapable of experiencing that situation you have no idea what it is like.

JP, I respectfully ask you; What do you think the suicide rate would be if an abortion was denied a victim of rape?

I agree that anti-abortion atheists are a small group, possibly because of the fact being an atheist demands a liberal or libertarian standpoint. i in my view am professional-selection AND professional-existence...i do by no skill think of that having an abortion is a sturdy element, yet i don't have the disrespectful audacity to think of my opinion on the project is from now on valid than absolutely everyone else's, and notwithstanding somebody makes a decision to do with their very very own scientific judgements is none of my damn organization.

Not me. I consider legislating restrictions on abortion tantamount to enslavement of women. A fetus is not a person and has no right to hold a woman captive.

We don't celebrate conception days because they are not and have never been the moment in which a person's life was said to begin. We celebrate birthdays because that is the commemoration of the beginning of a life.

I am anti-abortion and ant-death penalty. Oh yeah and an atheist who believes in the value of life.

On Y!A, you mean? I can't think of any.

Honestly, I don't see how you can be an atheist AND anti-choice. The only possible objection to abortion is a religious one. I would honestly wonder if a pro-life atheist weren't really a Christian just pretending to be trollish.

I'm not sure. I have mixed feelings about it. I'd say I'm more pro-education, birth control, and prevention. I would never have an abortion myself.

I don't believe that life is this sacred thing so I don't really care if someone has an abortion.

Your parts will get recycled either way.

I can't say that I fully support abortion but in many cases it is necessary.
