I just had my eyes checked and they told me i had a sty, but what is a sty?

It's an infection. They should have given you something for it. It will clear up just fine. Be sure and throw out your mascara now, buy a cheap one then when the stye clears throw that one out and use whatever brand you normally use. Bacteria is rampant in mascara.
I got quite a few as a teen, but haven't had any in years (knock on wood!)
