Yes.
What beliefs can't you "get down with"?
It might help for you to speak to an Islamic Scholar.

Firstly, i dont think that u can follow only part of the religion but u r ofcourse free to choose the sect that u find most suitable.
Still there are a few fundamental beliefs that are compulsory in islam and agreed upon by scholars of all sects such as the headscarf. However, other aspects such as the veil have different opinions.
Secondly, the best way to follow islam is to read the quran and hadith urself since there are many contradicting point of views among the sects and it can get very confusing.
As`far as those ppl are concerned who say there are no sects in islam-they are false. This is because the Prophet(pbuh) is known to have said that there will be over 60 sects in islam at one point but only one of them will be following the true religion of islam. God only knows which one that is.
So the best thing is to pray to god to show you the right path.
Goodluck!

A lot of things are questionable... look at what makes more intelligible sense and make your decision off of that. Dont' go off of what people say, or others do... Read and research for yourself.

If you want a good site to learn about shia/sunni... go to
http://al-islam.org/encyclopedia/

You can also email me for more info. It is very good to raise your kids in a good islamic fashion... and the core belief is that there is 1 and only 1 God, and Muhammad is a messenger of God.

Only the Quran is God's word; hadith are not infallible like the Quran. Even with the Quran there are many interpretations. Don't worry about the sects. Use your own logic of what you think is right and pray to God to forgive you if you err. Salam.

If you don't know the difference between Sunni and Shia, you are no muslim.

there are things in Islam that if you don't believe in most scholars will not consider you a Muslim.

my advise to you is that you need to ask a specific question to a scholar and get his answer.

if you would like to do this you can e-mail the Egyptian scholars at fatawa@dar-alifta.org, they are the reference with in Egypt that you can trust to get a correct answer from.

Good luck

Islam will only ruin their will and make them think that they are entitled to things without earning them.
