But am really confused if shoulder measurement what AKC says is at shoulders or can be taken at the withers?
I was really surprised to see the named aprts of the dog in this book, to discover that i was all these months measuring my 11 month old dane at the withers and he is SHORT if it is not at withers and at shoudlers. Please guide me.
This is the book at amazon and you can see the parts of the dog.

Don't forget that your Dane is still a puppy, he won't be completely mature until he is 3 years old. As long as he is up to the standard height, general confirmation is more important.

Dog measurements are ALWAYS taken at the withers (same as horses). This is the highest point of the shoulders..it is where the neck/back meet.

The minimum height for a male Dane is 30" and a female is 28"

check at AKC.org for the Great Dane breed standard,, that is the correct height for your dog - please bear in mind,,, that if you bought your dog from a pet store, backyard breeder,, etc.. your dog could quite possibly differ from the "standard" .. also,, the standard is the basis by which the breed is judged,,, it takes careful planning and breeding to get puppies as close to the standard as possible.... it is not an easy thing,,, are you planning to show your dog?? then his height at the shoulder/withers would matter,,, if not,,,, have him neutered and enjoy him,,, maybe try obedience classes

Read the standard!!!!!! NO LESS than 30 inches at the shoulder. Should be about 32" or more...........www.akc.org This is not the place to research your breed !!!!!
