swallowed a quarter. what will or could happen to me?

it really depends on how big you are because if your digestive system isnt wide enough, it is not gonna pass. and your gonna have to squeeze like a ***** to get that thing out. better go to the doc to make sure its not lodged somewhere because the odds of it getting out of your stomach and through your 6 meter long winding SI are not very good.

If you were a child, I would have some x-rays taken to see at what level of the gastrointestinal tract the coin is lodged. If it is still in your esophagus, the coin can easily be extracted under general anesthesia. For an adult, as long as there are no signs of obstruction, you can wait for the coin to pass, usually after a day or two. I wouldn't worry about the germs because your gut is full of lymphoid tissue that should take care of all those pesky microbes on the coin's surface.

Most likely it will just pass through your system...but, a friend of mine's daughter swallowed a penny that got stuck in her throat vertically. She could breathe but she couldn't really swallow and every time she tried to take a bite of her dinner, she would throw it up almost immediately. As long as you are not experiencing any of these symptoms, you should just pass it.

I would go to the doctor. It may not be bothering you now..but eventually it has to travel though you and when it's time to digest it may not work out very well. Plus, all money & change is COVERED with germs. It'll probaly pass eventually but still...
