My dog is pregnant, and she is due in a week. Out of her breast, only six of them are swollen and the other two are regular. Does that mean that shes only haveing six puppies?

No the amount of nipples doesn't decide how many pups. It is just an old wives tale.

Not necessarily, no. She may have only 1 puppy... or she might have 8... or 13. The number of teats has nothing to do with the number of puppies a dog may have.

The nipples that are not engorged with milk yet may yet engorge as she gets closer to her whelping date, or they may remain "small".

If you're curious to know how many pups your dog will be having, you can take her to the vet. He may be able to do an xray or sonagram and do a "head count". Experienced vets can also tell how many pups there are just by feeling the mama's belly.

Has nothing to do with it at all. Cats usually have 6-8 nipples and can have as little as 1-2 kitten litters, same as dogs. My Labs come from a litter of 10 and the mother didn't have 10 nipples. lol

No. Women have two nipples but usually only have one child. If your dog is having her first puppies and particularly if a small breed she may only be having one or two pups.

I have heard that but she may just have 4, you'll have to wait and see.I knew a female dog that only had 5 nipples and never had any puppies---mine.Good luck with the pups....Enjoy.

The number of nipples has nothing to do with the number of puppies. Large dogs often have more pups than they do nipples and feed in shifts.

Please have your dog spayed after her litter is out of the house - The last thing this world needs is another BYB - There are already 1000's of dogs in shelters that nobody wants, don't add to those numbers!

No, it has no bearing on how many puppies she will have.
Usually the first two (near the upper chest area) do stay normal.
