All dogs shed to some extent including the Dachshund. Smooth coat doxies do shed but their hair is about the size of an eyelash so usually no big deal, I have a friend whose smooth mini doxie leaves his little red hair all over her black furniture. Wire hair doxies do not shed their hair because dead fur stays trapped in the coat so they have to be stripped. Long haired do not shed any more then a smooth coat (contrary to what is said here) but they are a bigger grooming chore.
So if you are looking for a Dachshund that does not shed wire hair Dachshunds are for you.

I own three Dachshund 2 smooth and 1 long coat. My friend breeds wires.

I have a mini dachshund and I dont really care for the breed of dog but shedding quality on them is a minimal, they only shed alot if you dont brush them once a week.

yes they do, I have had one before and I can tell you from experience that they do shed so you will want to brush yours regularly to get the shed hair (especially if it is a longhaired dachshund) out of the coat and it will make him/her feel a lot better.

Yes.. all dogs shed. some breeds more than others.
Terriers or wirey coats tend to shed less. The poodle probably least of all.

Yes, not heavily though. Longhaired ones shed more than short haired.

I have a mini shorthaired doxie and I NEVER see her hair anywhere. She even sleeps under the covers with me and no hair. The longhaired ones though, thats another story.
