Average walking speed is 2.5 mph, so six minutes is an average quarter-mile time.

(For the math-impaired, here's how I did that: there are 10 quarter-miles in 2.5 miles, so it should take 1/10 of an hour to walk a quarter-mile. Dividing an hour by 10 gives you 6 minutes.)

Great Question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While walking on the treadmill today, I had the speed set at 3 mph. At that speed, a brisk walk, the computer calculated it would take me 20 minutes to walk a mile, or 5 minutes a 1/4.

I also counted the steps, which were 16 steps for every 1/10th of a mile.

Did I do the math right????????

I would say about 5 minutes. It was told to me once that the average person's pace is about 3 mph. So, thus the 5 minutes.
