spanish philosopher santyana once said, "Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it". I think the current administration is quite forgetful. these mistakes are turning out to be even worse then the mistakes made by all the administrations involved in the vietnam conflict. I think people are really disgusted by the course of action being taken by our leaders and unless a democratic administration puts a quick end to this madness two years from now, we may again see riots and other civil dis-obedience.

Depends on what you think the mistakes of Vietnam were. should we have gotten into that war anyway?

Was force the way to win the fight or was it better to defeat communism through free trade?

Now I don't know the answer to this, but from 1972 to the eventual opening up of Vietnam, were more people killed (both sides) than during the war?

I don't think it's fair to compare the two because the objectives, reasons, and times have changed.

If we look at the ultimate objective as winning though, I'd say we're making different mistakes with what appears to be leading to the same outcome.

Perhaps you could elaborate on your question. Everybody always says Iraq is like Vietnam but fail to explain why. It's not the same as far as goals achieved, military losses, amount of time the US has been involved, etc...

The only similarities that are glaringly apparent to me are the medias constant attempts to declare the war a defeat before it's over.

specific we purely went into Iraq to end the unfold of Communism, we brutalized the Iraqi human beings and took away their purely housing to establish internment camps, and we are actually not attempting in any respect to establish an excellent government because of the overpowering Communist risk in Iraq. yup specific is precisely like Vietnam *sarcasm* besides the undeniable fact that, human beings nonetheless % to pull out as we communicate precisely like we did in Vietnam stranding our Allies and the loose Iraqis. And the liberals seem to think of the conservatives did not study something from Vietnam.

If by "we", you mean the American media and anti-war left.

In Vietnam, we lost no battles in the field. It was lost in the living rooms, through the television.

In today's world, it is unfortunately similar. People can't seem to grasp the fact that war is unbelievably brutal, and turn against it. And when there is little good being shown ("If it bleeds, it leads"), it is almost impossible to keep up morale from the general populace.

It's really a shame.

No....it is the same kind of war, but as long as we stay the course and allow the military to do their job, we will have Victory

VietNam, was more of a political war.....the folks in Washington were calling the shots or not...In Iraq, the military has a much freer hand in things

There is an old saying that goes,"those who do not learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them." Iraq, regardless of how much the politicos try to deny it, is a bigger scaled Vietnam in the making.

They are similar in that they are both tactical mistakes. Eventually, congress cut Nixon off of funds for Vietnam, and now congress will have to do the same for Bush.
