Go to a local home center and buy some self drilling screws. They have what looks like a drill bit at the end. They will drill thier own hole and have special threads that grip the metal. Your sheetrock is about 1/2 or 5/8 of an inch. So you want to get a screw that is 1 1/2" longer that what your screwing to the wall. The stud finder will find metal studs.

Todays studs are Galvanized Metal, so its easy. Older ones are Wood, but use Steel,Iron,Metal Nails and Screws. A Plaster Wall will drive you nuts, becuase the Cross Members have naIls, but they are rather easy after you figure them out. Most studs are set 2' off center. That depends on the Builder and thier accuracy, but that is like the standard. Get a tape measure out, use the Stud Finder to locate one, place paper tape on it, then find the next in line, take a measurement, this will give you the Offset of the studs in the building.

Most stud finders will find metal studs. You need to get some "self-tapping" screws, which will penetrate the metal studs.
