Keep applying for disability. It often takes a minimum of 3 applications before it seems to be even considered. Appeal their decision.

It's crazy how expensive meds are. I guess something has to pay for the absurd amount of advertising the pharmaceutical companies are putting out these days. Wal-mart and Target are doing certain generic prescriptions for $4, but I haven't heard of people having much luck getting psych meds that way. So many of them (the more commonly used ones with less side effects) are still under patent and not made generically yet. It's worth checking into though.

Is there any way she can get medicaid? If not full medicaid there is something called a medicaid spend down that might be a possibility. I don't fully understand how it works, I've only heard of it as an option for people not eligible for medicaid. (And really, the income limits for medicaid are very, very low...if anyone in the household works, you are generally over the limit.)

If you want to talk more about applying for disability, I know a lot about how the system works (it took me 4 years to get SSI and 6 to get SSDI), feel free to email me and I'll help you in any way I can.

Here are some places to go for prescription assistance. There is one other place that I don't have the link for right now, but I can get it for you if you'd like.

One other thing you can do, if you haven't already, is ask the doctor for samples. They generally get a whole lot of them. Some doctors will give you enough for a whole month.

Hello. I feel so sorry for you. You are in the same position as my mum is with me as i have OCD bi-polar disorder and severe anger management issues. By the sounds of this, your daughter needs a change of medication. I have been on 7 different types before my therapist/ doctor found the correct combination. I know from experience that generally, you can't see when a fit of anger and rage is going to come on, but on the rare occasion that you can, talk to her and try and calm her down. Change what she was doing or give her a warm drink. Also, monitor her behavior over a month and find out if there are certain times of the day where she becomes particularly bad or agressive. If so, mention it to her mental health workers. I know my mum did this to me and it was something to do with meds and eating and something else...

Appeal the claim for disability, this is done all the time in Canada, I am not aware of the American disability act.
Again I am not aware of your medical programs, but you could get on blue cross or blue shield, this will cover doctors visits and meds. I am not sure of the cost there but I am sure it will cost less than 500 a month.

If her financial status is eligible you can apply for her to get free or reduced price medications from the pharmaceutical companies that manufacture the drugs. There are more and more programs becoming available to people without insurance due to the growing problem of people being unable to afford health care. Ask her physician for samples and about any available programs she could be eligible for.

Good luck...

You are usually always denied disibility the first time. You need to see an Attorney who specializes in disability law. They will prorate the disability, she will get back disability, from a certain point and the attorney will take some of that as their fee. Please try that, It is worth a shot. The 1st consultation should be free.

Research PACT in your area I found them after losing almost everything I owned. My wife is mentally ill and meds were at the most 1200. a month for one of 10 different meds. PACT has helped very much.
