He says he doesn't feel like eating, but I know he needs it. What else can I give him? He has the flu-- upset stomach, fever, headache, all that.

Plain chicken broth, saltine crackers, very plain foods ar ebest. but usually sick people will start eating again once their body tells them to. Make sure they drink a lot of water ( twice as much as you are normally supposed to) because dehydration can just make a sickness worse. And if they don't eat much for more than a few days, they should go to a doctor.

Well, the old saying is "Feed a cold and starve a fever"
The reason is that a high fever usually causes you to reject anything eaten.
For the time being, I would suggest you keep him hydrated and don't worry about his food intake.

Once he has the slightest hint of an appetite then bring on the chicken soup. From that point on, his recovery will be just short of miraculous.
Poor guy, I feel for him.

If he doesn't think he can keep things down, plain broth may be better than soup--preferably not from a salty bouillon cube. You can put it in a mug and let him sip it. He may also be able to take some weak tea (NOT herb tea, green or black).

Toast, plain rice and jello are popular flu foods. Ginger ale can help an upset stomach. Some people say to let it go flat before drinking, but I drink it bubbly. You can also steep some bits of fresh ginger root in hot water to make a soothing ginger tea to help with nausea.

Make sure he's getting lots and lots of fluids, especially just plain water.

Influenza rarely causes stomach upset. What is popularly called "stomach flu"--with symptoms like nausea, diarrhea and vomiting--is technically another viral malady: gastroenteritis.

Medically, it is accepted that there is no cure for cold or flu, only prevention (anti-biotics do not treat viruses, only bacterial infections). Whatever a person can tolerate or makes them more comfortable then provide it but don't push food. Clear liquids and Gatorade can be vital to avoid dehydration. Consult your physician.

If he has not vomited give him chicken broth. The easiest way to do that is to get some Swanson Chicken Broth canned from the grocery store and warm it slightly.

Only give him small amounts and if he can hold it down give him more.

If you are successful then give him Saltine Crackers.

Remember to wait 1 hour after vomiting and start with clear liquids such as broth and water. Do not give him soda. That can hurt his stomach and sugary drinks are not good if he is coughing.

My grandma always made me chicken, ham, potato soup when I was sick. Just make sure there is as little oil in it as possible, skim the oil off.
