it depends on what size element your talking about.

though i belive calvary use the term troop to refer to a company sized element. that would be 60-120 guys depending on how there TOE is set up, what vehicles they use what support they get at that level, who they have attached for what reasons.

and yes everyone has a specific job wether it be the gunner on there vehicle or just a rifleman, they have a job to preform.

right now im tasked out into a diffrent job slot, and ive changed "jobs" in my military service several times. though they all fall under jobs within my MOS which is infantry. ive been a rifleman, gunner (both SAW and M240B), grenadier, team leader, RTO... the list goes on.

In the Cavalry there are troops. They normally have 80-140 troop members. Normally four platoons and a headquarters platoon.

yes, they have different jobs and responsibilities. I was a tow track driver, on a demolitions track. We had tankers, mechanics, NBC specialists, supply. Many jobs and responsiilities!

In the United States Army, in the cavalry branch, a troop is the equivalent unit to the infantry company, commanded by a captain and consisting of 3 or 4 platoons, and subordinate to a squadron (battalion).

One Troop? We're not talking about boy scouts, dear.

As far as typical organization, if our unit was full (very rare), we had 4 people to a fireteam, 3 fireteams per squad, 3 squads per platoon, 5 platoons per company, 5 companies per battalion, and and 4 battallions per regiment. This is all plus or minus some support people, headquarters personnel, medics, etc...

The US has about 1.5 million folks in the military.

Each has a specific job be it working on planes, loading bombs, artillery folks, paratroopers, police, cooks, and pilots. Oh can't leave out some others: Infantry, Special Ops (Delta, Seals), EOD (Explosives folks), and Carrier people.
