My dog is 15 years old and is having accidents thru the night. He wines if we put him a kennel and barks if we confine him in the bathroom. If i can get him to sleep all night I don't think he would have these accidents. I let him out at 11 pm and 5:30 am. Any suggestions would be appreciated

The vet can prescribe a mild sedative to help the dog sleep. You can also get doggie diapers at the pet store. When they're that age though, accidents will happen!

Put his water up at 7 pm. And let his exercise be low key after that time. That might help. You can get a sort of bed that is like a cot and washable with a tray underneath or just a washable thick bed in general rather than confining him in the bathroom. He will probably feel better and have less accidents being out of confinement and having water put up after 7 and being in a bed near you. He is in his nursing home stage and needs more attention just like he did when he was a puppy. 15 is a long time in dog years. Hope this may help.

I wouldn't give him anything not prescribed or suggested by your vet.

My 13 yr old yorkie started doing this. She would have accidents all night. This went on for a year. Then she started having blood in her urine. The vet did a sono and she had serious kidney stones and bladder stones. He recommended removing the ailing kidney, but it was going to cost upwards of $6000. I couldn't afford that. As soon as she got to the point where she was really suffering I had her put down. You should probably talk to your vet...it could be just old age, but it also could signal a health problem. Good Luck!

Never give a dog any medication that is not perscribed by a vet.You dont want to hurt the elderly dog. They are sensitive. And even if sleeping,,they can let loose. Your dog is up in years,,enjoy the dog while you still have it. My 16 yr old dog started doing that & I bought pee pads. They work great. They are just like the kind that you would buy an elderly person.Ole roy brand is the cheapest that I found. And you can also use newspaper under that also.

You should take him to the vet. A lot of older dogs have problems with incontinence. There may be medication that the vet can give the dog to help with the pee-pee problem, which may help him sleep through the night.

It sounds like time is catching up with the 'ol fella. Have the vet give him a good look. There may be health issues that are making the the dog go more often.

have you tried using a glade plug-in of Lavender? And I would also try the CD called Canine Lullabies. This helped my dogs.

At 15, it's not uncommon for a dog to be a bit senile, and there are medications for this your vet can provide.

You need to have him vet checked for possible kidney problems or maybe even a bladder infection.

If he wakes up let him outside so he does not have an accident.
