dating relationships are never necessary. however, if you'd like to have children one day...you might have to do a little bit of dating for that.

I really think that if is very difficult to date working in the health field. My father is dating a nurse who is like top nurse in the OR or however you want to title her and he is having a hard time because she has no time for him. He wanted to stop dating her but she insisted that he stay in her life. My dad needs a lot of attention (as most people do in relationships) and he could not accept her lifestyle.

I think that in order for a relationship to work . . . the couple will have to work extra hard to dedicate some time and understanding to the relationship . . .Both of them are going to have to make a commitment. the person working in the health field is going to have to commit to making some time available for their mate and the person he or she is dating is going to have to see their efforts and appreciate it. They will also have to know that it is a stressful job and that not every minute that their mate is off work will be with them.

As far as my dad and his girlfriend . . .she comes over after working 9+ hour surgeries to spend time with him (she would go to sleep a lot) but at least she has made the effort to do it. . . once my dad saw that, he understood that she made sacrifices for him and that made their relationship stronger. . .

Does that make any sense? Hope so. . good luck!

Is it really necessary for anybody to have a relationship?

If someone with a highly stressful job can handle a relationship on top of that and most importantly not carry that stress over into their relationship then go for it. If they choose not to then that is their choice as well.

Not at all, relationships can be stressful too. It isn't necessary, some times it helps, sometimes it makes things worse.

But stress wise I know a few people in the field and they persue other simpler activities to relax.

Not really. There are professions with way more stress than a health field, with the exception of doctors.

I also am heavy in the medical field, relationship no, but if you are or want one, you have to find someone who can handle the odd hours and the occasional breakdown from a rough day or the tension from loosing patients.

It is not necessary for you to date, but if you would eventually like to find a partner/companion who understands you, you will have to get out there and date. You have to learn how to take time out for life.

It's not necessary for ANYONE to have a romantic relationship, especially health-care workers. How much time would you have for that, anyway?
