That'll be at the priest's discretion. I was recently made godfather to my nephew. Traditionally the godparents needed to be both baptized and confirmed. Times have changed and that is no longer a hard and fast rule. You may have to speak with a few priests before you find one that isn't a traditional extremist. Good luck.

My son had 2 god fathers and a god mother. One was, one was Jewish, one wasn't....have we seen them since? No sadly!
Church Of England myself. Does this mean that my sons christening is null n void judging by the other answers so far? It was done in a church over a font so i am now curious, the vicar never asked!

Yes they do, however there is no national register of baptisms so the vicar relies on good old fashioned honesty.
If your friends are happy lying infront of god, and that's the way you want to start your childs life in the church, then you _could_ have an unbaptised godparent. It kind of goes against the purpose of godparents though....

yes they do,if they aren't then on the day of the christening of baby the godparents get christened first.

as a catholic in Ireland i`ve never heard of priests asking the god parents for anything other than the brown envelope

Yes they 'have' to be although alot arent. My god daughters mom is catholic, im not but was able to attend the service and be her god mom
