what is the best dvd player for playing compressed home dvd,s?

my player plays store bought dvd just fine but home movies skip and lock up , thanks

Home recorded movies skip and lock because of the burning process. If you use low quality disc and/or burn at a high speed you will get problems. Burn dvd at 4x or 6x speed only. Use high quality disc like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Don't use paper labels on dvds. Follow those rules and you'll have a dvd with better compability with your player.
