My dog wont sit still & whines every 10 minutes then burps, he is also eating grass and has green poo?! He's had this once before but the vet said that he didn't know what was wrong which is a little worrying!!

Should i feed him some hi fibre veg to clear his system??

Thanks for your answers!!!

He is a 6 year old English Springer Spaniel,

Current diet is mixed veg (mostly root veg, no potatoes though) and Pedigree Complete Mixer. Also has some meat around twice a week.

His general health is excellent and has a beautiful coat.

I live in a very rural area and walk him through many fields (some crop fields).

I'm almost certain its something he has eaten on the way.

Hope this extra info helps.

Is pepto bismol really ok for dogs??

Yes, dogs can get trapped gas most definately, but you should watch what your dog eats. Some types of plants can actually be harmfull to your dog and trust me, when their tummies are upset they will eat anything green. Try giving him some milk, if it was something bad that he ate, milk usually neutralizes whatever is upsetting the tummy. If that does not work, try ENO. My vet gave me this advise for my "Namibian" (a real mix of a dog), and it works wonders.

Yes Pepto- Bismol is fine to give to your dog. I would purchase the pill form since it's easier to give than the liquid.

A surprising number of dogs are sensitive to ingredients in their food. Milk is a common ingredient in dog food, but many dogs have a condition that makes it difficult for them to digest it. This condition, lactose intolerance, can make dogs extremely gassy.

Food allergies are another problem. Dogs who are allergic to ingredients such as soy or wheat aren't able to digest their food efficiently and tend to be gassy. They often get diarrhea, as well.

Switch him to a high protein food, take all "human" foods off the menu, and get rid of rawhides. Your dog may love them, but because of the high protein in them (not to mention the swallowing of buckets of air while chewing them) they tend to make dogs gassy.

i know my dog and cats like to eat greens like the grass when stomach is upset because it is a natural laxative. what you should do is either give your dog rice or pepto bismol in order to bind his system. and don't go back to that vet :)

Your puppy is eating grass because he isn't feeling well.

I would take him to another vet for a second opinion.

from my knowledge, dogs eating grass is not a good thing, they are predominantly carnivores and their internals cannot digest and process the food of a herbivore correctly. try and restrict the amount of grass he eats.

also everything can have wind within reason!
